We actually got up at 3am and drove up to
10,000 feet to check out the sunrise on Haleakala. So you don't have
to, we now present the sunrise on Haleakala. |
|
Let me tell you though, you've got to
bundle up if you want to survive the sunrise. We got a tip from
somebody to bring the bed comforter and wrap it around us, and that
worked well. It was still cold, though. We were inside the
observation room, but a bunch of people were outside in the wind to
get better pictures. |
|
This is on the rim of the crater. |
|
The rim of the crater was actually down
the road a bit from the observation deck, but it had amazing views. |
|
It was worth going up for the views once
the sun was up, but the actual sunrise itself was a bit of an
anti-climax for us. |
|
Naomi had found this incredible snorkel
spot called Fish Bowl. Unfortunately, we had to hike for 30 minutes
over this bed of lava, and it was pretty grueling in the sun. The
hike was definitely worth it though. There were giant six-foot eels,
turtles, schools of fish, sea cucumbers, trumpet fish, trigger fish,
it was just amazing. |
|
On the way back, instead of burning sun,
the sky just opened up and started pouring down rain on us. We got
soaked. |
|
Whenever we give Amelie something to drink
(in this case OJ-Carrot juice), we have to take her outfit off and
prepare for the mess. The day after this, her poop was totally
orange. |
|
That's it for the Maui
pictures. We had a great time, and we'll be back next year.
