Mazatlan, Mexico (page 4)

The condo they bought was recently built and it was very nice. It's right off the highway next to the beach.

The pool is a really cool design, too. They're building another tower next door that you can see on the left.

This is the view from their balcony. They get a nice ocean breeze blowing into the kitchen.

Looking from the balcony inside the living room and kitchen. In the foreground is Nikki Popoff and her friend Tanya.

Amelie was going after the cat. It wasn't too happy about it, even though it's a pretty friendly cat

We went down on the last day we were there to check out Bill and Carol's boat, Star Chaser. I found out that boats are as difficult to learn as airplanes and have about as much technology in them. It's amazing all the ropes and gauges and charts. Bill seems to know what's he's doing, though. Carol also took classes on navigation.

Carol said Bill feels right at home on the boat, and it shows. He's going to redo some of the electrical and move some of the gauges when he gets back, but the boat is in great shape.

I mean, check out the interior of this boat. It's awesome.

This is a good shot of the cabin. It's small but pretty functional.

The galley for the boat. See, I want to call it a kitchen, but that would be wrong. There's a lot of terminology I don't understand when talking to Bill and Carol.

The mast of the Star Chaser. For the next couple of weeks it will be sailing through the Sea of Cortez.

On the way downtown, we saw this statue on the side of the road.

The cathedral in Mazatlan is very nice on the inside. It's in the middle of old Mazatlan, which I have to say, is a pit. They have a restored area called the French Quarter that is very nice, but downtown is pretty crowded.

On Sunday Carol and Bill hosted a brunch for everyone to get together one last time before saying goodbye.

We were off back to the US on Tuesday. Here's Amelie waiting in the airport lounge. I'm trying to distract her while momma finishes a burrito from Pura Vida. This was a great trip. Before taking this trip, my image of Mexico was formed by Tijuana, drug lords, and federales on the take. Mexico has all that, but now I also know there is a whole other side to the country and the people that is so great, I wouldn't hesitate to go again. I also want to thank Carol and Bill for making this trip effortless for us. We just showed up and they did the rest.
